Daniel Scott established his first auto body shop, Danny Scott’s Body Shop, on Knoxlyn-Orrtanna Road in the 1980s, after attending Gettysburg High School and completing courses in auto mechanics and body work at Vale Technical Institute, Blairsville, PA.
He worked solo at the shop for several years, building his clientele and his knowledge of the auto industry. In 1970, he married Shirley Swisher, a beautician who owned her own shop on Knoxlyn-Orrtanna Road. She was not only his wife, but his “first employee”, often ordering parts and paint for her husband.
As the body shop became busier, his sons, Daniel (II) and Eric, joined him in the business after high school. Both sons graduated from Gettysburg High School, Daniel in 1990 and Eric in 1994. Since that time, they have taken additional classes in paintwork, mechanics, and auto insurance standards.
Shirley worked on bookkeeping and taxes, while Daniel (II) focused on mechanics and bodywork, and Eric focused on the painting.
The family’s individual strengths helped to plan the new location of the body shop on Cold Springs Road. There, Scott’s Body Shop, was established in 2000. The new location, at 8,200 square feet, has room for 20 cars, an area for mounting and balancing tires, an office/waiting room, a paint booth, a frame machine, and an alignment machine.
In, June 2014, the sons, Daniel (II) and Eric, took over the business, allowing their father to retire in September 2014. The business is now a partnership that continues to grow, with 7 employees presently, and the same common goal since the business’s start – to provide the customer with a job well done that we can be proud of.
